Travelling to Palestine

Last year I stood at the Dead Sea on the Jordanian side and stared at Palestine (Jericho). I sat in the taxi wishing it was part of my trip, it wasn’t meant to be. Fast forward to 2019 I had the opportunity to travel to Palestine and I couldn’t wait.

I had to wait for a permit but began building my workshops anyway. There was so much to think about and as an overthinker, that’s all I did. What if I don’t make it or refused entry, I also had a potential court case which I have shared here.

My trip was “planned” for a maximum of 10 days and then I would be returning back to England. Back to the story, I had the worst anxiety pains and panic attacks the night before my trip. I felt very unsettled as I usually have my accommodation booked, but this time around I would be taking a huge leap of faith.

Backpack packed, no camera equipment just a lot of faith, I can’t stress this enough. When I arrived at Manchester airport (super early) because that’s the type of person I am. Flight delay, three hours it said on the board, and as someone who was travelling via Barcelona, I knew I would miss my connecting flight.

I had an overnight flight but when I arrived at Barcelona airport I was told to book a new flight, a few tweets later I was sent to customer service and had a new flight the next day, overnight accommodation and didn’t expect to spend a day in Barcelona.

My expectations were quite low, I was trying to stay awake as the taxi driver was giving me tips on what to see, but 2 am I arrived at The Plaza hotel (win, win). I checked in, I couldn’t believe my luck and decided it was time to call it a night.

I woke up the next morning, ready to explore Barcelona for a day. I did. I had the most amazing time, I still didn’t know where I would be staying in Palestine but just embraced the mini-adventure.

When it was time to leave, I had a few of my clothes stolen. I had a limited time to argue my point but we didn’t get anywhere and I was already anxious about the next journey.

Another taxi ride to the airport, I tried to claim my money back which is what I was told by customer service, but then told I could only claim back the taxi journey. It was just one thing after the other.

By this point, it was just another thing to sort out “later” and to worry about the “now”. I booked one night in Ramallah because I genuinely wasn’t sure what my schedule would look like.

To be continued…
